IIMUN Hyderabad – An illustrious experience |
Debating, public speaking and a thorough knowledge of world
politics and current affairs are some of the important qualities DPS
Sharjah seeks to develop among all its students. All these activities
teach students how to communicate ideas effectively. IIMUN Hyderabad
held on 1st and 2nd June, 2013 in IIIT Hyderabad, was another
such activity which aimed to boost confidence of students as well as
hone their speaking skills.
Sixteen boys and girls from grades 9 to 11 accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth
Eapen and Mrs. Lakshmi Arun set out to Hyderabad as delegates to take
part in this massive conference.
Students got down for
business as usual on the second day morning after the first day of
familiarisation, visiting some local places of historical importance and
tourist spots. Morning session was devoted to long hours of research,
studying policies thus making the sessions even more vibrant and
interactive. The evening orientation session proved to be rather
helpful, as it provided them with an idea as to how the sessions would
proceed. Leslie Lewis, of the “Colonial Cousins” made the evening even
more scintillating with his foot tapping numbers which made each and
every student join him on the dance floor. It took two days of negotiation and
debate to finally conclude the conference by forming large, detailed
resolutions in every committee.
The teams interacted with numerous delegates from across the
world and they received great feedback from each of the delegates. The
delegates explained their concept with utmost passion and clarity. The
students were challenged to deliberate over various issues of
contemporary relevance, such as the diamond conflict, the situation in
Syria and North Atlantic council.
Apart from debate and intellectual discussion there was also time for an
enlightening talk given by Dr. Jayaprakash Narayanan, IAS. He
highlighted how vital it is for the youth of today to think globally and
act locally.
On June 2nd, the final day, the several committees wrapped up
their sessions and passed resolutions that would help the world
community at large. This was followed by the closing ceremony. As the
curtains dropped on the IIMUN Hyderabad chapter, it was a truly once in
a lifetime opportunity for Dipsites to showcase their multifaceted
personalities.
Each and every student thoroughly enjoyed the conference, as it not only
enriched them on world politics and diplomacy, but also helped them to
develop their
debating and negotiating skills. |
